Lidl Hungary has significantly bolstered its logistics capabilities with the inauguration of a new distribution center in Kiskunfélegyháza, marking a substantial investment of nearly 60 billion forints, equivalent to about €162 million. This facility stands out as the largest warehouse managed by Lidl in Hungary, tasked with supplying approximately 70 stores across the region.
Spanning over 83,000 square meters, the logistics hub has already generated over 400 new jobs, and Lidl is looking to expand its workforce by hiring an additional 50 employees soon. The center is well-equipped with 194 loading docks and includes a 24,000-square-meter refrigerated section to handle perishable goods efficiently. Notably, sustainable practices are at the forefront of its design, featuring an expansive 9,000-square-meter rooftop solar array and a system that repurposes waste heat from refrigeration for underfloor heating.
In a bid to enhance environmental sustainability, Lidl has developed a 10,000-square-meter biodiverse green area surrounding the facility. This initiative aligns with the company’s commitment to eco-friendly operations. The center is poised to play a critical role in Lidl’s national supply chain, dispatching approximately 4,500 pallets of goods daily to meet the demands of its stores.
Lidl’s presence in Hungary comprises 220 stores, with the company sourcing nearly 60% of its products from local suppliers, underscoring its support for the domestic economy. The new logistics center is expected to further facilitate Lidl’s expansion efforts and strengthen its operational framework within Hungary.
