China and Germany are making strides in enhancing their business and technology partnerships, with a recent joint report highlighting a shift towards a more balanced exchange of expertise and innovation. This development was unveiled at the China-Germany (China-Europe) Hidden Champions Forum 2026 in Beijing’s Shunyi district, where over 400 business leaders and representatives from Europe and China gathered to discuss the future of bilateral cooperation.
The report reveals a notable trend among European companies aiming to solidify their foothold in China. Approximately 38 percent of these firms expressed intentions to boost their research and development investments within the country. Furthermore, 40 percent are considering granting their Chinese subsidiaries more operational autonomy from their German headquarters, signifying an evolution in their business strategies.
On the other side of this collaboration, prominent Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers like Li Auto and NIO are establishing research and design centers in Germany. This move underscores the increasing two-way technological exchange between the two nations, as Chinese companies seek to leverage Germany’s expertise in automotive engineering and innovation.
During the event, a public service station aimed at assisting businesses in overcoming technical trade barriers was inaugurated. Additionally, a new partnership initiative was launched to encourage German and European firms to engage with Beijing’s economic and technological cooperation zone in Shunyi, fostering further economic integration and collaboration.
Tang Wenhong emphasized Beijing’s commitment to supporting Sino-German business cooperation, with plans to attract more innovative enterprises to bolster the city’s status as an international hub for science and technology. This initiative aims to create a conducive environment for both countries to thrive in the global tech landscape.
