Demi Vollering clinched her second Tour de France Femmes title with a commanding performance on the final climbs near Nice, ultimately finishing 1 minute and 18 seconds ahead of her closest rival, Kasia Niewiadoma. The decisive moment occurred on the Col d’Èze, where Vollering launched an attack with about 600 meters remaining, distancing herself from Niewiadoma, who had been the 2024 champion. Despite Niewiadoma’s repeated attempts to gain an advantage during the climbs, Vollering proved unshakeable.
The race was marked by a dispute over tactics between the two competitors during the previous stage. Niewiadoma accused Célia Gery, a member of Vollering’s team, of hindering her progress during a crucial segment of the race, which led to ongoing discussions and criticism as the final stage approached. Nonetheless, Niewiadoma acknowledged Vollering’s strength, expressing her desire for fair competition and recognizing the Dutch rider’s remarkable performance.
Vollering expressed a desire for her victory to highlight her team’s deserving nature based on their sporting capabilities. Niewiadoma, who finished second overall, continued her impressive record of podium finishes in recent editions of the Tour de France Femmes.
The final stage brought challenges for another competitor, Marlen Reusser. The Swiss rider experienced a crash while descending the Col d’Èze, which significantly impacted her standing. Starting the day in third place overall, Reusser dropped to 14th in the general classification as a result of the incident.
