Brent crude saw an increase of nearly 8%, reaching around $90.75 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) rose almost 7% to approximately $84.76 per barrel. The price jump comes in the wake of fresh military actions that have escalated fears of a prolonged conflict in the region.
In recent developments, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced it had launched ballistic missile strikes targeting U.S. military installations in Jordan, which they claim were in retaliation for recent American military activities. In response, U.S. and Saudi forces executed coordinated strikes against Iran-backed militant locations in Iraq. The operation reportedly aimed at disrupting logistics and weapons sites linked to a series of drone attacks on military and energy infrastructures.
These hostilities have also led to heightened concerns over maritime security. The IRGC reported that its naval units intercepted and attacked three oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, alleging that the vessels ignored navigation alerts. In a separate incident, Yemen’s Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for targeting a Saudi-linked oil tanker in the Red Sea, exacerbating risks for commercial shipping in these critical waterways.
